“Transformers” runs 144 minutes and is rated PG-13.
Background: Introduction of the Animated Series
Growing up we had some great cartoons but I would have to say that “Transformers” always stood out amongst the crowd. The story of the Autobots and Decepticons started about “Twelve million years ago” (or around 1984), and an alien race known as the Quintessons used the planet of Cybertron as a factory to produce cybernetic lifeforms. Their early experiments were attempts in fusing organic and technological components called “Trans-Organics”, but these proved too primitive and unstable, which turned the Quintessons thought process toward pure robotics.
Their creations (consumer goods and military hardware robots) would eventually become the lineal ancestors of the Autobots and Decepticons, respectively. The Quintessons programmed their robots with intelligence using Vector Sigma (the spark), to allow them to carry out their tasks on their own. However, what they failed to realize was that their robots had developed true sentience and real feelings — after a million years of slavery, they could now feel and know the difference between it and freedom, and they struck back against their masters to win their freedom.
As the story goes the autobots and decepticons lived in peace… for a short time anyway….
“Transformers” the Movie
When I had heard that Transformers was coming out you could almost see the gleem in my eye… To say the least I was excited about the prospect of the film and what it may hold. I was sure that Micheal Bay, the director, was going to a good job… but with “Transformers” you need a special touch. (Dont’ get me wrong, Micheal Bay does great work (“Pearl Harbor, Bad Boys, Bad Boys II, Armageddon & The Rock… a minor mishap when creating “The Island”… but not bad) and with the addition of Steven Speilburg I knew that this film would be spectacular in the audio, visual and plot areas.
I won’t give away the story, but I would like to say that the movie does truly capture the essence of film making. The character’s draw you in and the action keeps you entertained. I would also like to say that in light of today’s society and the lack of morals and true apparent hero’s (or at least the ones that the press will actually cover) it’s nice to see some values installed into a main character. I would like to say that “Transformers” is truly one of the great movies of this year and I would recommend seeing it in the theater if you have the chance.
